It is with great pleasure and pride that the SECOND INFANTRY REGIMENT ASSOCIATION announces the re-dedication of the Regiment’s Monument at Fort Moore (previously Ft Benning), Georgia. The name of David Bellavia, Medal of Honor recipient, as well as the numerous campaigns the Battalions descendants of the 2d Regiment have served in since Vietnam will have been engraved forever into the Monument. Thus, adding to the proud, valorous history of our unique unit.
A ceremony will be held at the Monument at 10:00, Saturday 12 April 2025. Celebrating the two hundredth and seventeenth anniversary of the formation of the Regiment in 1808. A luncheon will follow at the National Infantry Museum. Those events should conclude at 15:00.
In conjunction with the re-dedication there will be a mini-reunion, focusing on the War on Terror Veterans. And especially, veterans who served at Fallujah in Nov. 2004; Where Dave Bellavia for his actions was awarded the Medal of Honor, and TASKFORCE RAMROD was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation. Additionally, numerous other personal awards were earned in that battle. Of course, all veterans of the Regiment’s descendant battalions are welcome to attend the ceremony and all activities.
Some plan to arrive on Friday, 11 April. And some plan to leave Sunday, 12 April. If any wish to arrange get-togethers or such Friday or Saturday evenings are free. The Association is happy to assist with coordinating those, any way we can.
Any questions or comments can be directed to John Kerins, or phone (609) 577-3443 and I will circulate them.
As of yet, we are not sure what the costs will be or how best to cover them. Generally, donations have covered the costs of any undertakings in the past. I expect once the word of the Re-dedication gets out, our members will contribute. To attention the luncheon there will, most likely be an additional fee. I hope and believe that it will be $20 OR LESS.
Please ensure that we have your name and email so we can provide information updates.
